Elliot received an acceptance on Wednesday into the USC Resident Honors Program. USC selects 30 high school juniors to start as college freshmen without finishing high school. I am very proud of him! But…

Am I ready to let go??? If he decides to go, I have 6 months to prepare him. Academically, emotionally, physically I don’t worry about him. But is he ready for the spiritual attacks that he will surely face? He will be learning from professors and being influenced by peers whose ethics, morals, and spiritual foundations are opposed to what he’s been used to. They will aggressively challenge Christian beliefs more so than they do here in relatively conservative suburban Walnut. Have I done enough to prepare him?

I read this verse as I was doing my BSF lesson:

“Now it is my God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come” 2Corinthians 1:21-22

It is not me, but God whose Spirit is in Elliot, who will make him stand firm in his faith in Christ. God can be trusted to do His work. I am so glad!

I think the number may be actually 40-60 (http://www.earlyentrance.org/RHP.shtml). Anyway, the more I read about it, the more I want to go!

One thing that helped me a lot was Christian community on campus. I sought them out as soon as I got to college, and I really think it made a huge difference.

USC has many Christian groups on campus. When I was there for an orientation on a thursday night, a worship service was being held in one of the chapels and it was completely packed. Unlike some universities, where nearly every professor is uber liberal, USC is pretty diverse, with teaching on both sides of the political/moral spectrum. Besides, there are some really strong Christians in this group of RHP students, so I think we’ll have a good base of brothers and sisters in Christ.

Great to know that, Jenny. I think it’s good to face opposition. The challenge is to stand firm in the face of opposition.
