My outside-the-home job is real estate. As a real estate agent, the best part of the job is meeting nice people.
Last week, my friend/client introduced me to his co-worker to help him buy a house. He is a very nice young man. He told me he is the youngest of five children – the youngest boy with four older sisters. When his mother was pregnant with him, she prepared some chinese medicine that would induce miscarriage. She wanted to abort him. At the last moment, she poured the medicine down the drain and carried the baby to full-term.
Imagine what she would have missed, what their family would have missed, what my friend who works with him would have missed, what I would have missed, what the world would have missed, if he was aborted. Abortion has killed a whole generation of fantastic people, who like this young man, could have brought joy to people around him.
I was also blessed to have met the retired couple who are selling the house that this young man will be purchasing. With over twenty years in real estate, this is maybe the second time that the sellera of the house we are touring offered us refreshments. We drank ice tea, chatted with them about the house, their move, etc. We almost stayed for dinner!
While every job has its difficulties, meeting nice people is certainly the highlight of my work that keeps me going.

At Google’s presentation last night, they said they really need some real estate people. Their Santa Monica office is small, but growing at a fast pace. They only have two floors, and it’s getting crowded. The company is also expanding globally. They need to buy land and buildings, and maybe manage them, too. Though it sounds like a big job, I thought it was interesting because I’d never considered real estate in terms of other businesses’ needs. But now I realize it’s very important, and complex, too.
