Chinese food is not my usually my first choice when dining out. But I must say, the food is good and you can’t get a better value.
Last Friday night, our children each had plans for dinner. So Mike and I on a rare occasion went out to dinner, just the two of us. Normally, I would choose Mexican food, but I wasn’t very hungry, and I knew Mike’s choice would be Chinese. We ended up at Sam Woo, the deli restaurant. We spent $15 for the two of us, with enough leftovers for next day’s lunch. The food was good and fast. You can’t beat that.
But I must comment on the atmosphere. We sat at a small table close to the entrance. My chair was pushed against the chair of the man at a table behind me. The packed restaurant was noisy, and the clanging noises from the kitchen was clearly audible in the dining area. You definitely do not go to Sam Woo for a romantic dining experience.
Chinese food again last night on New Years Day with my dad and aunt was a similar condition. A restaurant in Arcadia is one of my dad’s favorites. Noisy, crowded, and unfriendly waiters are all part of the Chinese restaurant experience you can expect. But we had Peking duck for $9.99! There were seven of us, spent just under $70, with 4 boxes of leftovers to take home. No complaints about that. Oh, and I must give credit to this restaurant for the 4-star restroom, a rare find in Chinese restaurants.
