I was on campus at a junior college, ready to attend class. I knew I missed a few days of school, but that’s ok, I can catch up. Suddenly a friend tells me that school started a week ago and I actually missed 2 weeks!
I better hurry to my class, but I can’t find my schedule! Where am I suppose to go? I found the administration office closed and can’t get a copy of my schedule, because it was suddenly 6 o’clock in the evening.
Then I woke up!
First day of school nightmares still plague me, and I haven’t been in school for over 20 years! Today is Amy’s first day back in school, I am once again living those days vicariously through her.
School related nightmares years after being out of school seem to be a universal experience. I think Dave blogged about it once. I’ve had dreams of forgetting my locker combination, showing up for a final and realize I never attended the class, roaming the halls and can’t find my class, etc.
Going to school takes up so much of our lives – at least 13 years including kindergarten, plus another 4 years for college, plus more years for grad school – I suppose it is not surprising that the experience continues in our subconscious.
But does anyone dream about good things happening at school? Anyone dream about getting an award, or ace-ing (is that a real word) a final? Maybe I have, but I don’t remember.
