Considering they don’t normally do anything, these 3 pirates in this newest Veggietales full length movie did quite a lot!
Here’s a photo of them.
That’s Larry, Pa Grape, and Mr. Lunt, but they have different stage names for the movie. They are Elliot, George, and Cedrick respectively. I went to see the screening of this movie that will be coming to theaters on January 11, 2008.
These Comic Vegetables did not disappoint. In their silliness, The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything taught “Sunday morning values” that were portrayed through the adventures of these 3 pirates who normally don’t do anything. They learned that heroes do not have to be tall, strong, and handsome. Heroes are those who are willing to do the right thing even when it’s hard.
Isn’t that a great lesson for our kids, and even for us? We are usually taught to do what is best for us, look out for Number One. We want to choose an easier route when things get hard, to pursue the easy life and find instant gratification. We would rather sit back and enjoy our Cheese Curls, wouldn’t we? (You have to see movie for the explanation of this)
The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything teaches us that there are some things worth self-denial and sacrifice. We have to do the right thing, even when we feel like giving up.
There were also more subtle messages in the movie. The story is an allegory with hints referring to God and His Kingdom such as “Help will come from above from a donkey” and “When my father the king returns, he will set everything right”.
Although I am a huge Veggietales fan, I have 2 complaints about the movie: Where’s Bob??? And why were there no “foot” prints on the sand???
The screening version I saw will be edited for sound and music. I’d like to go see the final version when it opens on January 11th.
