{"id":2322,"date":"2015-02-16T09:42:22","date_gmt":"2015-02-16T17:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.katylee.com\/blog\/?p=2322"},"modified":"2015-02-23T20:30:09","modified_gmt":"2015-02-24T04:30:09","slug":"leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/katylee.com\/blog\/2015\/02\/16\/leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"Leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m reading\/listening to<a href=\"http:\/\/healthyleaders.com\/how-to-identify-high-potential-emerging-leaders-video\/\" target=\"_blank\"> this<\/a>. Here are some ideas that stood out to me:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cWhat is leadership itself? What does it mean to lead people?\u201d\u00a0<span class=\"current-selection drop-target-example-drop-theme-arrows-bounce-dark drop-theme-arrows-bounce-dark content-share drop-target drop-enabled drop-element-attached-bottom drop-element-attached-center drop-target-attached-top drop-target-attached-center\">Here is a simple definition, that leadership at its heart involves change. It involves\u00a0movement.\u00a0Leadership is movement. The leaders help people to move from where they are to a better place in the purposes of God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"> Leadership is not caretaking. There is nothing wrong with caretaking.\u00a0The people need to be taken care of, but that\u2019s not the specific task of leadership. <\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">People need a leader to help them to move or else they typically won\u2019t move.\u00a0They\u2019ll typically stay where they are, afraid to move \u2013 that\u2019s the way we are. The sheep need a shepherd.\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">To build on this, we can see that fundamentally there are two things that leaders do. I know that this is an oversimplification but it\u2019s also a very useful one, to clearly articulate the nature of what it is that leaders do.\u00a0<\/span>Leaders think and leaders act. First, the leaders think, because leadership involves movement. Where are we going? Leadership involves definition of direction.\u00a0Where are we going? Leadership involves definition of direction.\u00a0Articulation of direction, articulation of means by which we will go there. Leaders think. Leaders are thinking outside of the current situation. They\u2019re looking into the future.\u00a0They\u2019re looking into the possibilities. Hopefully they\u2019re looking at the face of God and they\u2019re being challenged by Him.\u00a0They themselves are being challenged personally. And then out of that life comes the direction, the vision, the purpose of God in order to help the people to move there.\u00a0So, first leaders think \u2013 they explore, they think outside of the normal patterns of action, the normal ruts that we find ourselves in for so much of our lives. We need leaders to help us get outside of that. This is the essence of what leaders do.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is good stuff.
