We’ve tried various brands – Braun coffee makers, Hamilton brand, and Krups. They all seem to be about the same. The coffee maker part works fine, but when the pitcher cracks and breaks, it costs about the same to replace the pitcher than it is to buy a brand new coffee maker. The entire coffee maker costs only about $18 while the glass pitcher alone costs about $12. Surely the electrical parts of the coffee maker costs more than $6 to manufacture, but apparently it’s not worth their while to sell just the container.

Why can’t they make the glass pitcher replacement a standard stock item cheaper? Or is it a conspiracy to make you buy a new coffee maker? It seems such a waste to pollute our landfill with coffee makers that work perfectly fine, other than the missing pitcher.

I told my husband to consider buying one of those stainless steel coffee makers. However, they are more expensive, and by the time you pay for one of those, you can break 3-4 of the glass ones and still come out ahead. There is no incentive to be green.

My husband came home and told me the office has to buy yet another coffee maker.
