You&#8217;re back again. That&#8217;s two days in a row.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dad, you were here last night for dinner and you wanted to come again? Are you sure you don&#8217;t want to go somewhere else?<\/p>\n<p>I found out why he likes HopLi&#8217;s:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They don&#8217;t charge us for rice, retail value ~$4<\/li>\n<li>They gave us complimentary custard for dessert, retail value ~$8<\/li>\n<li>They gave him an extra quart of rice to take home, retail value ~$3<\/li>\n<li>Each of the waiters and waitresses all come by to chat, talk about their kids, and treat him like an old friend.<\/li>\n<li>They all speak his native Cantonese.<\/li>\n<li>When he asked for a container to take the custard home, they told him to take the bowl and just bring it back next time.<\/li>\n<li>Any time he goes to HopLi&#8217;s he can get a table right away, no matter how crowded it is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Just like in Cheers, &#8220;sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.&#8221; Priceless.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had dinner with my dad tonight. &#8220;Where do you want to go for dinner, dad?&#8221; &#8220;How about HopLi Chinese restaurant?&#8221; Sure.
