{"id":774,"date":"2008-07-26T19:05:15","date_gmt":"2008-07-27T03:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.katylee.com\/blog\/?p=774"},"modified":"2008-07-26T19:05:15","modified_gmt":"2008-07-27T03:05:15","slug":"childhood-dreams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/katylee.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/26\/childhood-dreams\/","title":{"rendered":"Childhood Dreams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/entertainment\/reviews\/critics\/la-me-pausch26-2008jul26,0,5191339.story\" target=\"_blank\">Randy Pausch<\/a> died yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>In his famous last lecture, he said he had two childhood dreams.<\/p>\n<p>I remarked to my son that I couldn&#8217;t think of what my childhood dreams were. Maybe I didn&#8217;t any dreams that I passionately pursued.<\/p>\n<p>My son said, &#8220;Maybe that&#8217;s why you haven&#8217;t accomplished anything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#8217;t mean it as an insult, and I didn&#8217;t take it as such. I agree with him that I have not accomplished anything particularly noteworthy. As I live my &#8220;midlife&#8221; years, I do look back and wish I was more ambitious.<\/p>\n<p>I grew up with the idea of getting good grades and getting a good job. I was never challenged to accomplish something great, to do something spectacular; I never thought I could change the world.<\/p>\n<p>What did I want to be I grow up? I wanted to be mother and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adventuresinparenting.org\/category\/discipline\/\" target=\"_self\">raise good kids<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps like Randy Pausch, I did accomplish my childhood dreams.<\/p>\n<p>And perhaps I did change the world a little bit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Randy Pausch died yesterday.
