Life in the suburbs does not demand much.
I have to decide whether to have chicken or fish for dinner, not where my next meal will come from. I have to go to work, by driving there in a air-conditioned fully automatic car. I have to help my mother-in-law buy her medicines, by sitting in my swivel cushioned chair, order them on high speed internet, and they arrive at the front door.
You paid for it with your tax dollars.
You might as well make use of it.
It has comfortable seating, the temperature is always set just right – cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It contains the resources you need to learn about any topic you want. You can also choose to laugh, or cry, or experience suspense and mystery. You can even find out the current celebrity gossip.
As our church is going through a time of change, after our associate pastor has left and many who are discouraged has also left, I am reflecting on who are the ones who are staying on.
In this free country where there is a good church every other block, what keeps a person staying with a church when things are not going well?

Take an amateur but talented musician with a lot of enthusiasm and have him put together a live band of equally enthusiastic and talented teenagers to play the music and lead songs for the kids. It would even be better if he could take a week off work to hang out around church and work on last minute details.
It has to happen to everyone sooner or later. Hopefully not more than once or twice. And hopefully not serious.
