Fried twinkie

Our annual trip to the LA County fair took place last Saturday.

AND WE FINALLY DID IT! YES! We bought the $400 Vita-Mix that we have been drooling over every year!

Last year, I said if I have a really good year selling real estate, we may buy one. This year is one of my worst years, but after watching the demo over and over, tasting sample after sample of smoothies and tortilla soup, we handed over the American Express, rationalizing that the 1% cash back on the card made it a really good deal. I’ll give a more detail review of the machine after we use it a few more times. BYOFV (Bring your own fruits and veggies) and you are welcome to try it. (Nat: tell your mom) The guy says Jamba Juice and Dairy Queen uses the Vita-Mix. I don’t go there. Would one of you tell me if this is true?

Another first for us: Pictured above is the Fried Twinkie with strawberry jam (who is the mystery person in a spiderman shirt holding the fried twinkie?) We ordered only one, each got about an inch of it, and it was enough to satisfy our curiosity. It was way too sweet and greasy, but the idea of it is delicious. Last year we had the fried avocados. This year for lunch we had the medley of fried veggies – fried mushrooms, fried zucchini, fried asparagus, and fried artichoke hearts. Can you find anything not fried at the Fair?

Here are a few more County Fair pictures.

  1. I’ve never heard of that machine, but if it can make smoothies that rival those of Jamba Juice, it’s definitely worth $400… maybe even more.

  2. BTW, from what I remember when going earlier this year, Jamba Juice does indeed use Vita-Mix blenders.
