Can you believe I am reading Chaucer when I don’t have to?
My daughter and I were at the library looking at the classics section. She remarked, “I heard Chaucer is really good.”
I don’t remember reading The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. I didn’t even know he was a poet!
Roald Dahl is best known for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach.
My daughter is a huge fan of Roald Dahl. She has several of his books, not the whole collection.
I actually think some of his themes, especially the short stories for adults, are a little twisted.
I liked this Mary Russell book much more than the last one I read.

A Monstrous Regiment of Women by Laurie King has some deep thoughts on believing in God. Mary is a scholar of theology but did not believe in a miracle even when she saw it with her own eyes. Margery is a mystic with no formal training in the Bible, yet she has a deep understanding of God.
I borrowed another Mary Russell book from Kimberly, and it took me awhile to read it.
O Jerusalem by Laurie King was intriguing, but it wasn’t a book I couldn’t put down. In fact, I put it down so many times that I couldn’t quite follow the plot.

I don’t usually read Christian fiction. The last one I read was a Father Tim series in January, 2007.
Since I get a free book in payment for writing a review for RadiantLit, I choose a light book to read, something I wouldn’t normally buy myself.
Another Sherlock Holmes book not by Conan Doyle.
This one is The Seven Percent Solution by Nicholas Meyer.
Holmes’ cocaine addiction is so unpopular. This is the second book I’ve read that talks about Holmes quitting the habit. I agree that we don’t like the idea of our hero as a drug addict.
I did not like her other book, but this one was really good!
Laurie King has a series of Sherlock Holmes books where King creates a new partner for Holmes. The Beekeeper’s Apprentice is the first in the series. The other book I read earlier, The Game, made more sense now that I read this one.
Instead of reading my usual genre of mystery books, I read a different type of mystery.
I am sorry to say, I don’t like it.
Acceptable Risk by Robin Cook didn’t receive any awards nor on the Best Seller’s list. I can see why. I don’t like his style of writing, the characters are not…

This is the weirdest rendition of Sherlock Holmes I’ve read. I thought Holmes having a female partner and then marrying her was off the wall. In this book, Exit Sherlock Holmes by Robert Lee Hall, everything about Holmes’ mysterious background is explained. Where did he acquire his many skills as an actor, violinist, fencer, scientist, and detective? What is his actual relationship with arch enemy Moriarty? How come he never talks about his family, but somehow a brother Mycroft is smarter than him?
What do you read after you’ve read all the tales of Sherlock Holmes by Conan Doyle?

Unlike the Mary Russell series, the adventures of Holmes and Watson in Murder, My Dear Watson contains a series of short stories that stay true to the original character of Sherlock Holmes. Some of the authors even mimic the writing style of Dr. Watson. This book was good reading.
