Business Deal

Father: I want you to marry a girl of my choice
Son: “I will choose my own bride!”
Father: “But the girl is Bill Gate’s daughter.”
Son: “Well, in that case…ok”
Next Father approaches Bill Gates.
Father: “I have a husband for your daughter.”
Bill Gates: “But my daughter is too young to marry!”
Father: “But this young man is a vice-president of the World Bank.”
Bill Gates: “Ah, in that case…ok”
Finally Father goes to see the president of the World Bank.
Father: “I have a young man to be recommended as a vice-president.”
President: “But I already have more vice- presidents than I need!”
Father: “But this young man is Bill Gate’s son-in-law.”
President: “Ah, in that case…ok”
This is how business is done!!

That’s kind of what I do as a real estate agent. In the end, everyone is happy.

Wrong bus

Thai woman tells of 25-year detour after catching wrong bus. Read about it here.

I was thinking, how could this have possibly happened?

But then, if you were not very educated,

and you didn’t even know enough about geography to draw a map,

and you didn’t know where you were in relationship to your home,

and you couldn’t find your way back to the bus stop,

and there is no phone at your home,

and there is no mail service to your home,

and you can’t draw pictures well enough for people to know what you’re trying to say,

and you wouldn’t even know if people understood your gestures and pictures because you wouldn’t know what they’re saying to you in reply,

and in 25 years, you couldn’t learn even a few useful words in another language,

this could happen to you…

Bonnie gave me the bulbs for my birthday, and they are blooming already! I love the simplicity and the feeling of smoothness of tulips. I have a picture of tulips in our dining room in the background of this picture.

USC Tennis

USC beat Cal 7-0!

The weather was great as we sat in the stands of “center court” to watch the singles matches on Saturday. Boy, those guys are buff 🙂 But I was surprised that they do not rush up to the net. They rally from the back court like women’s tennis. (Don’t mistake that to mean they play like girls…) There seems to be a big jump in the level of play from college to professional men’s tennis.

(hope you like this post, Laurie!)

Forgiveness

Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, was reminded one day of a vicious deed that someone had done to her years before. But she acted as if she had never even heard of the incident.

“Don’t you remember it?” her friend asked.

“No,” came Barton’s reply, “I distinctly remember forgetting it.”

Superbowl XLI

No one in my family is a football fan, but I should at least know who is playing and who won.

I watched parts of the 3rd and 4th quarters, and the final few minutes of the game. I actually enjoy watching football as well as other professional sports. I got that from my brother. But watching about 30 minutes of the last half of any sport is enough for me.

Then I found this that made the game more interesting to me.

I’ve been reading this book on and off for a while. Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions by George Barna gives good insight into the importance of children’s ministry in our churches.

If you want to have a lasting influence upon the world, you must invest in people’s lives; and if you want to maximize that investment, then you must invest in those people while they are young…The more diligent we are in these efforts, the more prodigious a harvest we will reap.

Sadly, few people at church want to be a part of children’s ministry. Granted, working with children is not the easiest or the most gratifying job to do. You would probably gain more short term satisfaction doing music, or adult ministries. Investing in children is a long term process. Yet, we must actively pursue the souls of these young ones. The enemy is not letting up, and neither can we afford to be lax about teaching our children about God.

This book inspired me to set a goal: This year, one of my goals is to raise awareness of the importance of children in our church.

Audrey screamed and jumped out of bed: “WE DID IT AGAIN! IT’S 6:30!”

“Audrey, it’s Saturday.”

“OH…:P”

Our wake up time on a school day is 6:00am. Audrey leaves the house by 6:30am. One day last week we woke up late. Now she is hypersensitive to waking up late.

Everyone went back to sleep…except me. My only day to sleep in, and I couldn’t. It was funny though.

True or False:

1. Gifted students must be challenged or they will get lazy.

2. Gifted students enjoy teaching/tutoring other students.

According to the GATE Coordinator at Amy’s school at last night’s meeting, the answer to #1 is False. If gifted students are not challenged, they will not get lazy, but they will get bored.…
