One of the all-time favorites – Horton Hears a Who – now on DVD.
It was so good we watched it twice in a row.
Most notable are:
ASAP = Acts Swiftly Awesome Pachyderm
I meant what I said, and I said what I meant; an elephant is faithful 100 percent
A person is a person, no matter how small
The “anime” fight scene – ROFL hilarious
If you haven’t seen it, you’ve got to! A true rated G movie.
I read this in Amy’s Social Studies book:
Many inventions of the Industrial Revolution simply made life easier. When Alexis de Tocqueville of France visited the United States in the early 1830’s, he identified what he called a very American quality:
[Americans want] to be always making life more comfortable and convenient, to avoid trouble, and to satisfy the smallest wants [desires] without effort and almost without cost.” – Alexis de Tocqueville, from Democracy in America.
—
Yup, that’s me. I want a trouble-free, easy and comfortable life.
I submitted an invention to the Mother of Invention contest, but I didn’t win. I think my idea didn’t have a chance because it doesn’t have the “make the world a better place” type of usage, but it’s still a great idea.
If you want to know what it is, and especially if you have VC, sign a NDA and I’ll tell you đ
I am just so impressed with Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the book of Daniel.
The attractions of this world had absolutely no hold on them.
They had position and power as rulers and administrators of a major province in a powerful nation.
They were young, handsome, intelligent. Who wouldn’t want to be in their place?
“Fort Lupton Municipal Judge Paul Sacco says his novel punishment of forcing noise violators to listen to music they donââŹâ˘t like for one hour has cut down on the number of repeat offenders in this northwestern Colorado prairie town.
About four times a year, those who plead guilty to noise ordinance violations are required to sit in a room and listen to music from the likes of Manilow, Barney the Dinosaur, and The PlattersââŹâ˘ crooning ââŹĹOnly You.ââŹÂ ”
(Read the rest of the story here.)
Now Barney would be annoying!
1. Tried a new recipe of mini pumpkin pecan pies. Let’s just say I am not going to make them again.
2. Stayed up past midnight 2 nights playing Ticket To Ride. The first game was won by the youngest in the family; the second game was won by the second youngest. That goes to show you…never feel you have to show mercy when playing games with kids.
3. Learned a lesson in hospitality. I invited my cousin’s family to Thanksgiving, not knowing what to expect. We are not close, and only see each other occasionally at weddings and funerals. But it was a lot of fun getting to know them. I learned that when you reach out in friendship, it usually ends up to be a good thing.
4. My coordination ain’t so good. I can’t get past Easy on Rock Band. My excuse is, I was deprived as a child. I never had any music lessons in those formative years.
5. Staying up late and sleeping in late gives me a headache. But it sure is fun not having a schedule.
I said I wouldn’t read another one, but it was available in the library, I couldn’t resist.
Shadow Puppet is next in the series after Shadow of the Hegemon. The story is exciting, but the characters are getting old.ĂÂ Same good guys, same bad guys.
I see how it is very difficult to write a series. You want to retain some continuity, but it would be redundant to keep referring back to the previous books.
One interesting point in Shadow Puppet: since this is a scifi futuristic theme, in vitro fertilization was common in order to pick and choose from the gene pool. But what happens to the fertilized eggs that are not implanted?
The main character Bean expressed grief when a few of his fertilized eggs were discarded. Those were his “babies”. He thought of himself as much a murderer as the evil scientist who killed the experimental one-year-old babies. It was a subtle point for the pro-life position, but a well-made one.
I am definitely taking a break and not reading the next in the series.
There are people who are rich, and there are people who have money. They are not the same thing.
I think I am pretty rich.
This is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible, right up there with the book of Habbakuk.
Deuteronomy 8 is especially relevant to us after devouring a huge Thanksgiving meal!
For those of us who have more than we need, and even have much of what we want, this is a command and a warning that we must take to heart.
