This is from Dennis Rainey of Family Life. I signed up for his emails.

Not long after I graduated from the University of Arkansas, a female friend came to me for counsel. She was dating a young man who happened to be my best friend. And though she wanted to marry him, he was uncertain about committing to her.

I want to thank those in the gay community who are voting Yes on Prop 8. I know you are out there, thank you.

Why would a homosexual agree that marriage should only be between a man and a woman?

Tammy Bruce, a lesbian, pro-choice, feminist, gives logical reasons for supporting marriage as between a man and woman. In her article Respecting Marriage and Equal Rights, she explains the reasons why the definition of marriage should not be change.

In another post, Bruce also explains her disagreement with the judges overturning Prop 22.

It’s not about whose rights, it’s about America. Thank you, Tammy Bruce, for clarifying the issue.

I finally got the book from the library that Elliot recommended. Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.

I must say, this author is pretty versatile. This book is very different from the one I read before. Overall, I liked both books. I know every scifi lover has read the Ender’s Game series. But since I am not usually a scifi reader, I am probably not going to rate it as high as others may.

The whole story hinges on the characters and they were very well developed. The main characters are little kids, but I think the author made little attempt to describe them like kids. They acted liked adults in almost every way. I couldn’t form a mental image of them as kids, they are suppose to be as young as 6, 7, 8 or even 10 or 12. I know that is the point, that these little kids are super geniuses. But a mention of their ages occasionally is pretty much all that is said about childlike characteristics.

I rather predicted the climax, though it was still a little bit of a surprise.

What I didn’t like is the last part of the book. It sets itself up for a sequel, and a “redemption” element there was kind of cheesy.

It sure would be nice to be quick and smart, and such a nice guy too, like Ender Wiggins!

Senator Obama just said in the presidential debate that he wants to unite around common ground in preventing unwanted pregnancies.  Frankly, I can never take that apparent olive branch seriously as long as the person offering it wants to expand federal funding of abortion, eliminate any existing restriction on abortion, and actually manufacture more nascent human beings only to be destroyed for their parts.  Common ground should take into consideration ALL the lives involved when there’s an abortion.  You must read this careful, sober evaluation of Seantor Obama’s position on abortion and the unborn by a man who is not given to overstatement.  I just can’t take seriously any social justice platform that doesn’t include protecting the lives and rights of the tiniest, weakest, most innocent and vulnerable humans.  I’m willing to talk about a broader social justice platform if the 1.2 million unborn children slaughtered every year are included.  Surely, that is fundamental to social justice.

If there is any doubt where Obama stands on abortion, simply look at who supports him: Planned Parenthood.

I have little chance of seeing Obama defeated in California unless there is a miracle. He doesn’t even need to campaign here and he’ll win. But I seriously pray that he will not be voted as president. I am praying for a miracle.

California’s largest teacher’s union has given another $1 million to defeat a Nov. 4 ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in the state.

The contribution recorded Tuesday makes the California Teachers Association the largest institutional donor to the No on 8 campaign. CTA also gave $250,000 in August to Equality for All, a coalition of gay advocacy and civil rights groups opposing Proposition 8.

Why would a teacher’s union support a proposition unless it has to do specifically with education?

Don’t get me wrong. I understand teacher’s unions are political. I am part of a real estate professional organization, and they are political. In the same way that churches need to be political too.  These organizations have a right to make their voices heard. I don’t have a problem with that. If the CTS gives to defeat homeschooling initiatives, I can understand that. I don’t agree, but I can see their point.

But supporting gay marriage???

Who controls these teacher’s unions and how is it that they got to be so liberal? I can’t imagine that a majority of teachers are liberals. I can’t imagine that teachers particularly want to advocate gay marriage in their curriculum.

If I were a teacher, I would look into alternatives such as CTEN. it looks like teachers do not have to contribute to the political fund either. I hope teachers know that they have choices, and that they are not legally bound to join California Teacher’s Union.

We can’t have the cake and eat it too.

Americans want to be prosperous, enjoy the luxuries of life, and complain to the energy company if their air conditioning is down for a few hours. But at the same time, they want to lower their energy usage. It just doesn’t work that way. A prime is example is how Al Gore lives vs what he says about global warming.

I think I will take a break from reading Laurie King’s series of Mary Russell. (Thanks, K, for lending them to me.)

I just finished reading A Letter of Mary by King. It took me over a month. I kept falling asleep!

I like the mystery in King’s books, but what I don’t like are too many asides to the main plot. I suppose it helps with character development and all that. But it gets to be too much to the point where it detracts from the mystery.

In A Letter to Mary, the storyline took twists and turns, leading the reader down a path that leads nowhere. Then the resolution was not very clever at all.

I wish Agatha Christie was still alive!
