Winter

Finally, we have cool weather today. It’s beginning to feel like winter – the start of my favorite holiday season – Christmas of course!

Christmas has not always been my favorite holiday.

Growing up, Christmas did not mean much more than no school, and a few presents. Even the presents were nothing to get excited…

hmmm…

So Audrey was wondering why I would still remember what Mike was wearing when we first met over 25 years ago…Maybe subconsciously, I knew I would be blogging about him 25 years later and subconsciously made a note of it…while blogging didn’t exist then, I subconsciously had a feeling that something like an online journal would be available in 25 years …of course there was no such thing as being online, but I subconsciously knew…

Thanksgiving

What are you thankful for this year that you couldn’t say last year?

– I am not missing Elliot as much this 2nd year in college

– I am thankful for my church family who stayed with the church through hard times

– I am thankful for the ladies in my new Bible study group in Chino Hills

– I am thankful for the trip to Houston for my brother-in-law’s wedding – a rare trip on the airplane for us – and so much fun with my family.

-  I am thankful that our upstairs bathrooms is newly painted, has new floor tiles and a new vanity. I’ve been wanting to redo that bathroom for a couple of years

– We finally bought a Vita-Mix!

Are you wondering what you want to be when you grow up? I am! Find your niche, they say. What is my niche? Your niche will grow out of what you have a passion for, they say, what you would do in your spare time.

What I love to do:

– Study the Bible and prepare a lesson to teach

– Teach

– Talk to people

– Get people involved into doing things together

– Plan programs for children

– Do anything with my family

– Help nice people buy or sell their house

– Do crafts with friends or with Audrey and Amy

– Read

– Look at houses and home improvement shows and magazines

What I hate to do:

– Handle people problems

– Deal with difficult people

– Shopping (except home improvement stores)

– Planning for a trip

– Doing all the little details of executing a program

– Read a manual and follow its instructions

– Any kind of manual labor

How do I find my niche from there?
What does your lists of love and hate look like? Have you found your niche?

Prayer

After all these years, prayer is still a struggle for me.

So today, instead of praying with the right words, the Lord said to me, “Just unload your burdens on me. Tell me your concerns.” I began by telling him my concern for the children and the young adults at church. I told him of my love and worries about my children and family. Then there are all the things I need to do and feel so inadequate in doing.
I realize that God does not need us to present to him our list of requests, but rather confess to him our need for him to take care of each of those items. He wants us admit our needyness. Then he is able to give us his power.
I learned that from my own Sunday School lesson from last week. I think I am my own best student.

Anniversary

Friday, November 10th, Mike and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary!

Words of wisdom, you ask?

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Hold on to each other during tough times.

Know when to talk and when to shut up.

Give more, take less.

Take opportunities to do silly things and laugh more.

Thanks, dear, for your patience, kindness, and love through all these years. Want to go for another 22 years?
