spiderman live

Where else can you strike a cool pose with Spiderman except at Universal Studios? We even got his autograph!

Pictured here with Spiderman is my niece Sami (left) and Amy. We were there at Universal Studios on Thursday. The waterplay area got the kids soaked, perfect for a hot day of over 90 degrees. The Jurassic Park river ride got the rest of us wet too.

The King Kong part of the tram tour was not in operation. That was most disappointing.

Other than that, it was a great day.

Do you watch Stanley on Disney Channel? He’s a little boy with a hexagon shaped head. His best friend is a really smart goldfish in a bowl named Dennis. Stanley takes Dennis with him everywhere, and never drops the fishbowl.

You learn a lot from Stanley, or rather from Dennis. Today Stanley learned that “just because there’s a lot of something doesn’t mean it won’t run out.” His parents told him not to waste resources like water, electricity and paper.

“That’s called conservation,” says Dennis.

“Conversation?” asked Stanley. “Actually, my mom did most of the talking.” 🙂

Then Stanley and Dennis went inside his Great Big Book of Everything and visited the bison. They are the biggest mammal in North America. Did you know that? I didn’t.

Stanley (and I) learned the saying, “It’s going the way of the buffalo” to refer to something that is going extinct, or slowly ceasing to exist.  We need to conserve or some of our resources will go the way of the buffalo.

Highlights

Bethlehem Village highlights for me after four days:

A little boy came up to me 3 times to give me a hug just to say, “Hi Auntie Katy!” The 3rd time he says, “My name is Warren.” “I know that,” I said, “and your mom’s name is Eustine.” He was taken aback. “How did you know?”, he asked. Out of 80+ children, he didn’t think I knew who he was. “You’ve been coming to our VBS since you were little. Of course I know you!” I replied.

I asked the teen helpers, “Do you remember who your Crew Leader was when you were in VBS?” Alfred says, “Yeah, Elliot was my leader one year!” Ahh, he remembered!

Watching the teenagers playing kiddie games like leap frog and having a good time. They don’t need high tech video games!

Eating a late dinner at home around 10pm and talking to my girls about their highlights of the evening. They had lots of great moments to share too.

Our church was transformed into Bethlehem Village this week for Vacation Bible School 2006.
Isn’t this the cutest outdoor scene? I bet you can’t guess what the whole thing is made out of – Amazing things you can create out of cardboard boxes! Check out Dan’s blog for a good description of what happens in Bethlehem Village.

new phone

I am not stupid (don’t argue that please), but Elliot quoted a comment from Slashdot that kind of described me, other than the stupid part.

There are techno-snobs and there are techno-phobes. I am obviously of the latter.

We switched from Verizon to Cingular cell phone service. Now I have to learn to use a new phone. Somebody change my ring tone for me!! (Thanks, Audrey)

front door

Have you ever had to choose a paint color for your house?

It’s not easy. The paint companies such as Dunn-Edward, Behr, etc. has nicely coordinating pallets for you to choose from.
In the end, the actual appearance is likely to be different from what you imagined.

That is my experience anyhow. I thought I choose a darker color. After the paint was applied, it looked a lot lighter than what I expected. It turned out very similar to what we had before! Here I thought I was making a big change.

What is different is the color of the front door pictured. It used to be red. Do you like this color? It’s part of the pallet from Dunn-Edward that is suppose to match the wall and the trim. At first, I was sure I was going to repaint that door. But now it is growing on me. What do you think?

Israel

What do you think of this open war between Israel and Lebanon? It’s kind of scary.
Israel has always held a special place in God’s plan. No matter what the outcome, Israel in one way or another will survive. I believe that those who fight against Israel are fighting against God.
