Thankful

Things I am thankful for today:
A great time at lunch with my Bible Study Fellowship ladies, sharing about what God is doing in their lives.
Dottie, my teaching leader in BSF, an example of perseverance, taught for 35 years, without pay or fame.
My children’s great attitudes and behaviors, I love being with them.
My husband’s hard work, he always does what I ask him to do without complaint.
My friend who emailed today and said she is praying for me, without me asking.
My heavenly Father, who gives me all the above to give me encouragement.

Funny memory

Here’s something else I remember from my childhood.

When I was in 4th grade, I was next to my friend Melissa Sargent. As she was talking, she turned to point at something and stuck her finger into my nostril!

Yeah, I remember stuff like that…I wonder what happened to all my childhood friends and teachers…Linda Waterman, Mrs. Fairfield – my 3rd grade teacher who was so nice, Mrs. Petruska – my 4th grade room mom who was very, very nice. Her husband is a doctor. Her son in my class is named Peter. Room moms do make a difference, and I hope someone remembers Mrs. Lee as his room mom one day.

Milestones

Elliot passed his driver’s license test yesterday.

So many milestones for him this year – driver’s license…going to college…

Looking back, I do not now consider those as significant events in my life. At the time they probably were, but I don’t remember details at all. Did I fail a couple of times before passing the driver’s test? Was I excited when I received my college acceptance letter?

Today is my husband’s birthday. What does he want for his birthday? Roast duck for dinner. So I am going now to Sam Woo’s to buy a duck. Easy enough!

We spent a few hours on Balboa Island this morning, walking on the harbor and pier, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and cool ocean breeze – just the 2 of us. We talked real estate of course, commenting on every house we see as we walked, wishing we owned one of them that faces the ocean, talking about where we can afford to retire. Definitely can’t afford Balboa Island. We find that we don’t want to be bothered with a lot of actiivty. Some quiet time just us 2 was a perfect way to spend the day.

Thankfulness

Amy has bookfair at school this week. She wanted to buy this and buy that.
K: “How much money do you have?”
A: “How much money can you give me?”
K: “Prioritize what you want, and let me see what you really want.”

She wanted a paperback, the story of a mouse who is a…

We waited over 45 minutes for our take-out order.
“We could’ve bought food at the market and cooked our dinner, mom” said Audrey.
“It’s a good thing you are with me, Audrey dear. The time waiting is not wasted because we are together” I replied.

I am very impatien when it comes to waiting for anything, but time spent with one I love is time well spent. Always bring someone you love with you when you know you have to wait.

Letting go

In short, any student that goes off to college will be presented with situations where they will be called upon to make responsible moral choices. There comes a point in every parent’s life when they must trust that they have raised their child to make the right choices.

I do not so much trust my abilities as a parent as much as I trust that God will make things right in my child’s life inspite of my mistakes as a parent.

Bittersweet

Elliot received an acceptance on Wednesday into the USC Resident Honors Program. USC selects 30 high school juniors to start as college freshmen without finishing high school. I am very proud of him! But…

Am I ready to let go??? If he decides to go, I have 6 months to prepare him. Academically, emotionally, physically I don’t worry about him. But is he ready for the spiritual attacks that he will surely face? He will be learning from professors and being influenced by peers whose ethics, morals, and spiritual foundations are opposed to what he’s been used to. They will aggressively challenge Christian beliefs more so than they do here in relatively conservative suburban Walnut. Have I done enough to prepare him?

I read this verse as I was doing my BSF lesson:

“Now it is my God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come” 2Corinthians 1:21-22

It is not me, but God whose Spirit is in Elliot, who will make him stand firm in his faith in Christ. God can be trusted to do His work. I am so glad!

Amy: “I hate my leg!”
Amy has ezcema on her leg that keeps flaring up. We pray together that God will give her healing. It gets a little better, than it flares up again.

“O God, please answer our prayers! It bothers her so much. I would forego answers to any of my prayers if You would answer this one for Amy.”
“Tell her about my grace instead telling her about healing.”

As a mother, I want everything to go right for my children. But that’s not God’s plan. God does not give me a straight path. Through the trials, I grow. The same will be true for my children.

“God said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2Corinthians 12:9-10

Amy, you will see the power of God working in you as you endure your ezcema. He will give you strength day to day. He will shine through you in your weakness.
