My son moved into an off-campus living arrangement last night, entering his junior year in college.

“Did you pack your school supplies? Your ID and keys? Shampoo and soap? Contact lens solution? Toothpaste?”

The car was loaded down with boxes full of college-student necessities, from toilet bowl cleaner (I hope he will actually use it) to bean bag chair.

Then my son called me this morning:

“Mom, I forgot to bring socks. I’m wearing the ones from yesterday.”

That’s hilarious 🙂 I love my son.

As Girls Guide to Geek describes it, my son is definitely “a man of substance, quietude and stability, a cerebral creature with a culture all his own. In short, a geek.”

It is vogue to be a geek now, I don’t have to worry about him any more. I just hope a nice girl will take care of him one day, someone who understands and appreciates him.

Again from Girls Guide to Geek, “If you can hang with the techno-lifestyle, [geeks] make the best mates. They are the most attractive people, not flashy or hunky, but the kind who get cuter and more alluring over time.”

While shopping online on Craigslist.com for a used car for my son, I can across this ad:

“What about Jesus? Some say Jesus’ ethic of love and forgiveness requires us to end the death penalty. This was the appeal Mother Theresa made when Robert Alton Harris was facing the gas chamber here in California. She appealed to the governor saying Jesus would forgive.

With no disrespect towards Mother Theresa, I think her comments were mistaken because her view simply proves too much. What should be done instead with capital criminals? Should we put them in prison for the rest of their lives? But Jesus would forgive. Should we put them in prison for ten years? But Jesus would forgive. Should we put a murderer in prison for one day? But Jesus would forgive.

You see, if this argument works it becomes justification for the abolishment of any kind of punishment whatsoever. This argument proves too much.” – from www.str.org

If you don’t believe in the death penalty, but believe criminals should be punished in some way, then do not use the argument that, “Jesus loves everyone and would forgive.” That argument makes no sense.

Unless you believe all society’s criminals are forgiven by Jesus and therefore should go free, then you can use that argument. But of course, that makes no sense either, and that is certainly not a Christian view.

If you don’t believe in capital punishment, please come up with a better argument.

Mary Poppins

We’ve watched Disney’s Mary Poppins probably a zillion times, and every time we watch it, we love it!

Every one of those songs are fun to sing along and we are amazed at the special effects that Disney was able to do without CGI.

I don’t know how I missed it, but last night when…

Mike Huckabee

Huckabee is a good guy, not any worst than other candidates, and better than most. If he is the win-able candidate for the Republicans, I will support him.

I like his policy of establishing the Fair Tax. It would be tremendous if America can finally institute a “Fair” taxing system.  Chuck Norris supports him, that’s enough for me 🙂

Support him by spreading the word to raise $1 mil by January 10. Considering how much Ron Paul raised in a “money bomb”, Huckabee should be able to get more support.

While it doesn’t seem right, the candidate with more money to spend on advertising does have an edge. So if you believe in a candidate and want him to win, you do have to support him with money.

My husband came home and told me the office has to buy yet another coffee maker.

We go through several coffee makers a year because the glass pitcher gets broken. We’ve tried various brands – Braun coffee makers, Hamilton brand, and Krups. They all seem to be about the same. The coffee maker part works fine, but when the pitcher cracks and breaks, it costs about the same to replace the pitcher than it is to buy a brand new coffee maker. The entire coffee maker costs only about $18 while the glass pitcher alone costs about $12. Surely the electrical parts of the coffee maker costs more than $6 to manufacture, but apparently it’s not worth their while to sell just the container.

Why can’t they make the glass pitcher replacement a standard stock item cheaper? Or is it a conspiracy to make you buy a new coffee maker? It seems such a waste to pollute our landfill with coffee makers that work perfectly fine, other than the missing pitcher.

I told my husband to consider buying one of those stainless steel coffee makers. However, they are more expensive, and by the time you pay for one of those, you can break 3-4 of the glass ones and still come out ahead. There is no incentive to be green.
