I just learned that it is acceptable, and in fact encouraged, to take a present that was given to you, but don’t want and give it to someone else as a gift. There is actually a term for that now – regifting.
We’ve gotten a stovetop grill that we wouldn’t use, knick-knacks too fancy that…

As the new year begins, people are thinking about making plans for the year – where they will go on vacation in the summer, what they’d like to achieve in business, etc. All the plans are assuming they are here in this world. Not many people think about what happens if they are not here.
2008 is starting out with a lot of TV watching for me. I hardly ever watch TV, but today I watched the Rose Parade live for 2 hours and 1/2 of the re-run – I love the Rose Parade!
I grew up in Pasadena and my family used to own a restaurant on Colorado Blvd.…
Christmas makes people do unusual things –
People would work selflessly day and night to make tons of tamales to give away – and I got some of them! Thanks Theresa.
I went out to meet my neighbors on my block whom I have not talked to in the 9 years we’ve lived here. We went Christmas caroling at their houses, and they were all very friendly.
College students bake cookies from scratch, not from a mix! We had a cookie exchange at my house.
People put 6-foot trees in their houses and put lights on them. We should do this every day of the year.
Musicians have to play Christmas carols over and over again, even though they don’t like Christmas carols – Thanks for your sacrifice, Tony. I personally love those old favorites.
Pay more for the postage than the cost of the contents to send presents to relatives by Christmas.
I love Christmas! Leave those decorations up for a few more days, would ya?
Can you make a living with blogging?
I came across Blogsvertise on a forum that talked about working from home. The first attraction on the Blogsvertise website was their first line – “Earn cash and generate extra income from your blog!’ That sounded pretty good to me. The panel of pictures of featured bloggers also caught my eye. It breaks up the monotony of printed words and shows a sense that real people are involved.
The obvious questions that came next were: how much money can I really make? What do I have to do? How do I get paid? All these questions are answered in the FAQ section. I was quite satisfied with the clearly explained answers and decided to give it a try. There is no penalty, no fee, and no experienced required. All you need is a blog.
After the registration process, I was sent an auto-respond email to confirm my registration. But before I can be approved as a blogger, I have to write an entry about Blogsvertise to make sure I know the rules. I suppose it’s a way of seeing a sample of my writing plus some free advertising for Blogsvertise – very smart!
This is my first experience in blogging for dollars. If it works out, I’ll certainly post more about this.
Thanks to EK, I read this Agatha Christie book without having to check it out from the library. I read it on www.Scribd.com.
I’ve read 4.50 From Paddington a long time ago and didn’t remember the story. As I was rereading it this time, I knew what to look for and who the possible murder would be. But the ending still surprised me. EK gives a good summary so I won’t repeat the storyline here.
However, I have to say, this is not one of Christie’s best. If you have not read her mysteries before, don’t start with this one. While the murder is intriguing, the resolution was a little forced. However, I still enjoyed it.
The state of Maine has 10 million uninhabited acres of trees. Altogether, just 2% of the United States is classified as built up.
I read that in A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. It was written in 1998 but I wouldn’t think the figures now are too far off.
The book by Bryson is a personal description of his hiking trip through the Appalachian Trail. He and his out-of-shape buddy go through some amusing experiences. At the beginning of each chapter, he gives a short history of the area, including stories that most of us probably had never heard. There is a lot that can be learn from this book. Bryson is a funny writer.
But I did not have patience to read the entire book because it doesn’t have a plot. The anecdotes are certainly fun to read but since there is no story to follow, I lost interest about half-way.
Audrey: Do you know a person with the last name Lum when you were in college?
Me: Yeah, Glenda Lum, Ed Lum…
A: Ed Lum – did he go to Cal State Long Beach?
Me: Yes…
A: Did he go to First Chinese Baptist Church?
Me: Yes…
Every Christmas our family enjoys attending a large musical production at a mega church. Last Saturday our Christmas spirit was lifted a few notches after we watched The Gallery at First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton.
Expecting a packed sanctuary, we arrived early, yet we still ended up with seats in the side section. A…
