While shopping online on Craigslist.com for a used car for my son, I can across this ad:
2000 HONDA Accord EX V6
LEATHER SUNROOF 200 Horse Power V6 Automatic Transmission Naples Gold Metallic Exterior Soft Plush Leather Interior In Dash CD Radio Remote Entry …Perfect CarFax History…No accidents no damage no problems…
The price? $2960!
With 116k miles, that’s at least $2000 below Kelley Blue Book! I excitedly emailed the contact and asked to make an appointment to see it.
The response was this in its entirety (emphasis mine):
Hello and sorry for my delay,
I’m Sgt. Robert Parra. This Honda is in perfect working condition. This vehicle engine runs very, very smooth. No electrical problems on this beauty. This detailed vehicle makes the exterior looks like it just came off the assembly line. The car has 118k highway miles. VIN Number: 1hgcg1655ya068349
It was never involved in any accident, not even minor ones. The body and paint are great. The interior is super clean, mechanically, it runs like a cat on carpet.
Here are the pics of the car :
http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee106/accpix/As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay’s Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and you inspect it(for 10 days) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. Anyway i am sure that if you will don`t be satisfied about the car i will surely find another buyer in your area and there will be no need for you to ship the car back.
I am located in London, United Kingdom and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between USA and UK. One month ago, my wife moved here with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in US because we can’t register it here; it has US specs and everything, and registering it here in Europe will take for ever. My final price on it is US 2,960 $. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. You will receive the car in about 3 days. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.
Best Regards,
Robert Parra
Can this be legit? I am hoping it is!
I sent a message back to “Sgt. Parra” and asked him whether the car will pass the smog check for California. I figured if it was really legit, someone else probably bought it already, but it’d be worth asking.
Then a couple of hours later, I get another email. I contacted another seller of another ad from Craigslist for a Camry that I thought was a good buy.
Here is the email response in its entirely (emphasis mine):
Hello,
The 2003 Toyota Camry is located in Farmington, CT and it is in perfect condition, with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever. It has 44k miles and the VIN is: 4T1BE32K03U655388. It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized on your name. I have the pictures hosted on the net and you can see them at:
http://s215.photobucket.com/albums/cc161/RobertBright/The price is $2,900 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction.
The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party and this way we will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job in the army so I decided to use a service from Worldpay. To begin the transaction I’ll need your full name and shipping address. I will forward the details of our transaction to Worldpay and then you will receive an invoice from them. The car will be shipped insured to your location with DAS and you will have 5 days for inspection.
Best regards,
Robert Bright.
I am catching on now…
Both cars advertised at incredible prices at about $2,900, both seller’s names are Robert, both are willing to ship from out of the area for free, both are in the military, both use photobucket to post pictures …
Since I’ve been scouring Craigslist, Autotrader and dealerships for a car, I had sent out several emails. I forgot what I sent out.
So a couple of hours later, I got yet another response, for an Acura I asked about.
Now I am rolling on the floor laughing!
Here’s an excerpt:
Hello and sorry for my delay,
Yes, I know, you are busy in the military, right?
The 1999 Acura TL is in perfect working condition. This detailed vehicle makes the exterior look like it just came off the assembly line….It was never involved in any accident, not even minor ones…The interior is super clean, mechanically, it runs like a cat on carpet…
You must’ve been talking to Sgt. Robert Parra! Both of you have a cat! And do you also have a wife who doesn’t check ahead of time if a foreign car can be registered in the UK?
As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay’s Buyer Protection Program…I am located in London,United Kingdom and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between USA and Serbia. One months ago, my wife moved here with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the United States because we can’t register it here…It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. …
It’s Serbia now, very nice.
Best Regards,
Michael Parker
At least they are getting a little more creative with the name.
I googled this subject and found a forum discussion of someone who got this email, a friend of the Roberts, no doubt, and coincidentally also named Robert, with a cat and a wife who just joined him too! I put an excerpt here, but I’m sure you can figure out what the rest says:
Date: Thu, 6 Dec 2007 18:22:47

I might have fallen for the first reply if the scammer would just be a little for creative in their approach.
Apparently, an epidemic of ads like this is on all kinds websites, including the sale of motorcycles, ATVs, jet skis, motor homes, trailers, and even farm equipment.
One member of the forum responded with this advice:
1. eBay does not “hold the money” until you are satisfied with the car. Once you pay them, that is it. And I suspect they will ask you to pay by Western Union.
2. The military does ship cars overseas for servicemen (why does this guy talk in pidgon english if he’s American, anyway?). But thet SHIP them, by SHIP, not by air. Total LIE.
3. American servicemen can drive their cars overseas without registering them there. Again total LIE. Why would a serviceman have a car shipped overseas if he could not register it?
The pattern is the same: a coveted item (BMW, Kobota Tractor, Honda motorcycle, etc.) worth $10,000 to $20,000 is offered for a pitiful amount – $2500 to $5000 with a long-winded “backstory” behind it. You wire them the money, thinking you scored big and that’s the last you hear of them.
They hijack eBay identifications by using those phishing scams. Typically if you look at their feedback, you’ll see it is some little old lady in Arkansas selling dolls. Suddenly, the person is a Seargent in the Army in England selling a car. What gives?
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is….
Hi, I am from Texas. I was looking on this website OfferUp, “this web is more like a garage sale online” then I ran into this 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck advertised for $2,500, with 50,300 miles while it’s usual price was not less than $12000. When I asked for the truck they reply I got a reply “hi, i ask for truck only 2,500 total price because i wan to sell fast, if you a serious buyer please reply at [email protected] if you wan to buy it” I knew right away that it is a SCAM. Just to make myself sure, I emailed the seller and in return received this:
I would really like to get $2,500.00 firm, so if you are interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your: Full name and shipping address, so I can inform eBay that I have a buyer! I will forward your details to them and then you will receive the invoice. then you will be able to talk with them directly and ask you want to know.
My best wishes and I’m waiting your response so we can move forward with this deal.

Watch out for Sarah Taylor, “Senior Medic Sgt”. Same bogus story…ebay motors, etc. So sad. I really need a car.
I am having fun toying with these jerks right now. We are trading emails back and forth and I am pretending to be oblivious and naive. He’s “selling” a VW van for 20K less than it actually sold for on eBay 2 weeks ago. I spoke to the REAL seller and the van is on it’s way to Germany. Robert C Walker says it is waiting for me at an AFB in Montana because he is deployed. Geez these people.
my husbands work truck was recently stolen and we were looking on Craigslist to buy a truck. And lost track of how many people we contacted and receives this email. I had even purchased the cards but if it wasn’t for this older lady at the store that told me honey be careful and I decided to snoop even further.
Hello
My name is Jessica and I’m emailing you about the Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 that I have for sale. It is a 1999 truck 4dr model loaded with everything. Never had or need any paint/body work done, garaged keep always, without any mechanical problems, tires and wheels are in great shape as well, electric is working perfectly. The engine is 5.3L 323Cu. In. V8 GAS OHV Naturally Aspirated, gasoline fuel, the automatic transmission shifts perfectly and works like new, the truck has only 115k miles. Has a clean and clear US title in my name and there are no liens or loans on it. This truck was used by my husband who died 4 months ago. The price was reduced at $1,500 because I’m in a hurry to find a buyer. I need to sell the truck before the 04th of February, when I will be leaving on military duty with my medical team out of the country for a year and do not want to store my truck. Hate to sell it but its not worth keeping insurance and paying storage fees for a year. If you have any other questions, email me back and I can send more pics.
Regards,
I’ve run into this several times, through all different channels. Craigslist, Cars.com, Carsforsale.com, etc.
The main points seem to be
1) Price is way too low / deal is too good
2) Some reason / sob-story about why it’s such a good deal
3) “3rd party” payment scheme
If you see these things, immediately suspect it. They are all over the place.
Common reasons:
– Military… moving, reassigned, etc.
– Son / daughter died, have to sell their car
Today, From CarsForSale.com – note:
– Way too low a price (that’s like a $12K truck for $2K)
– ‘Reason’ for the low price.
– Bonus points: military

Add Angelina Wise to the list.
Just ran iny\to a 07 Jeep with same basic profile. When I got a reply I thought it strange the price and the unit and the spelling of senders first name. When I checked her out I found she didn’t exist in the unit.
I came across an ad on Craigslist for a 2007 Toyota Camry for $2000. I suspected it may be a scam, but I’ve run across some legitimate things on there, too, so I texted anyway. The area code was local (325-267-8863). A few hours later, I received a text from 804-479-8447 saying to email his/her mother about the car at [email protected] (but with the AT spelled out). Again, I suspected a scam when I couldn’t find either number or that email address on Facebook. Against my better judgment, I emailed. Then thought to google the email address and found this thread listing the exact scam. I’ll block them and report the ad. Glad I know better than to try some weird payment scheme, but wish I hadn’t given them my email and phone number :/
Hi, I am from Chicago. HERE IS MY EXPERIENCE TODAY
I was looking on OfferUp, found 2003 Tahoe price $2065
First there was the Phone Number 312-809-2316 and price for 2003 Tahoe is $2065
I knew it was too good to be true.
First email:
Hey,
This is Steven. I just got your email about my 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe 4X4. It’s in good condition. It’s exactly like it’s shown in the pictures. It has no damage or hidden defects. It was always garaged and never been smoked in. It has been well maintained with a full service history. Clean title in hand, with no loans or liens on it. I have all the manuals, receipts, documents. It has 143,041 miles, automatic transmission, 5.3L V8 engine, 4-wheel drive, sunroof, leather seats, cd player, air conditioning, cruise control, power locks, power windows, power seats, anti-lock brakes, driver airbag, passenger airbag and more. It does not need anything additional to function. This is a worry free SUV. The price for the SUV is $2,000 and is firm. No trades and no payment plans. Email me back if you are interested in buying it.
For more pics here is a link to the SUV’s photo gallery: https://goo.gl/photos/LoQo7gkTGJ1r9hUU6
Thanks
Second email:
Hey,
I am currently stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, MT making final preparations before deploying to Syria to help advise and assist against the Islamic State group. The SUV is here with me at the base and if we reach an agreement the shipping won’t be a problem because military has a considerable discount, so I can handle it by myself with no charges whatsoever on your account. Shipping may take anywhere between 2 to 5 business days depending on the destination. You will receive the SUV along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, 2 set of keys, full service records and more. I am currently signed up with Amazon Payments and I would like to close the deal through them. You can pay with cash or credit card. If you are not aware of Amazon Payments you should know that it will allow you to test drive and inspect the SUV before paying me. You will have a 5-day inspection period to decide whether you want to keep the SUV or not before they release the funds to me. If you decide not to keep it Amazon Payments will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern. In this way you’re not buying something sight unseen. If you agree with these terms please send me your full name, phone number and the address so I can initiate the transaction with them. You will receive all the transaction details from them (terms, buyer protection coverage, payment instructions, invoice for the purchase).
I want to point out that I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer ASAP.
Then I asked for VIN, he sent me this VIN: 1GNEK13Z43R315424

Welp, I guess I found myself caught up in one of these scams as well! Thank you so much for publishing this! It was already strange to me just how many spelling errors there were within the email, and even more that I could not find the person’s name linked to anything (fake name). Here’s the email I received, this scammer’s changed his name once again. Once I asked to see the car, the person brought up the eBay buyer’s protection program.
Here’s the emails I received:
Hello, this is Tina Morris, and I’m emailing you about 2007 Toyota Camry SE, with an gasoline engine, automatic transmission and only 84,850 miles. I came across one of these scam’s. What are they trying to get from this scam? The one I came across Sgt. Brenda Larson never asked for money up front, but wanted and I quote ” If interested just email with your legal name (your right full name ’cause it will appear on the papers), full postal address where you want the vehicle delivered and your cell phone # where you can be reached so we can get the ball rolling”. What can they gain from this info? Is this an attempt of stealing my identity?

I have dropped my price to 4200 (purchase price) since this is an urgent sale and I need to sell it before 18th of April when I will be transferred to the Fort Lewis, US Army base near Pierce County, Washington.
To conclude this deal in a timely manner, the financial part will be managed by the uShip. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
Let me know if you need any additional info on how it works or more details about the van.

thanks to whoever started this website, I avoided getting scammed- so appreciative 🙂
Well, I guess I also found myself caught up in this too. I almost fell for it. I even thought to myself, this sounds too good.
Thank you for being interested in buying my 2002 Toyota Tacoma sr5 4×4. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, and has not been involved in any accident. It has 120,809 miles, 6 Cylinder 3.4L engine, automatic, clean title. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the engine runs great. I bought it when I was serving in McConnell AFB, Kansas but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf-Richardson AFB in Anchorage, Alaska for a 3 years period so I do not want to let it ruin in my backyard, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer.
The truck is still in Kansas crated and ready to go. The shipping will be free for you because I will transport it using the Internal Logistic Department! The Logistic Department will deliver the vehicle to the nearest US AFB in your area and at that point you can pick it up or I can hire a tow truck in our network to have it delivered at your door. The entire shipping process will take 2-3 days. The financial part will be managed by eBay which means you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the truck. In this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
My bottom line would be $2,000 so if you are interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your full name, shipping address and phone number so I can inform eBay that I have a buyer.
Hope to hear from you soon!

The reason of selling it, is that i am unable to obtain a European Certificate of Conformity in Italy because this Jeep meets US standards. Changing the standards to Italy standards will require modifications, paper work and high costs.
This is the first time selling my Jeep online. I want you to see, drive and inspect the Jeep before you decide to buy it and for that we need a legal business-specialized company to handle the entire process for us. We will use eBay Motors Vehicle Purchase Protection (VPP).
You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the Jeep. ONLY AFTER you receive the Jeep and inspect it eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected.
If you will not be satisfied with the Jeep, you can refuse the Jeep and ask for a full refund of your deposit, no questions asked. I will find another buyer in your area and there will be no need for you to send the Jeep back.
I am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped by plane with US Air Military Jeepgo and it will not cost me anything.
You will receive the Jeep in about 4-5 days. The Jeep will arrive at the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place.
The deal WILL BE MADE UNDER THE eBay Motors RULES AND POLICIES. Both of us will be protected. I WILL NOT DEAL OUTSIDE EBAY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!
If you want to move forward, I will need your full name, shipping address and phone number. Once I will receive your details, i will open the transaction with eBay Motors, and they will send us the transaction details.
If you want to call me, this is my US phone number +1 (415) 871-0673

Apparently the guy is still at it. Going by the name Allen Parker. Broke my heart that this as turned out to be too good to be true. So glad a friend made me look into this deeper. This time it was a 1971 VW Bus (Westfalia) for $7500. Some things I noticed were he signed his name Allen Parker but in his email Parrker had 2 “r’s”. And he signed it “regards”. The initial email went to his “brother” who told me to contact Allen. After finding this post I was sure it was a scam. Then he emailed back with the pay through eBay email. Then while looking in my local Craigslist I found the same bus and listing here in SC and the original bus was located in Milwaukee. So glad I found this thread. After surviving breast cancer I decided to treat myself to my dream car (bus). So glad I didn’t get “had”.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS. THIS WAS MY EXPERIENCE:
Details of my offer (2009 Kawasaki STX-15F + Trailer) $2500
Hello,
My name is Sarah, and I’m emailing you about the pair of 2009 Kawasaki STX-15F Jet Skis with trailer, 25 & 28 hours and run great.. Never had or need any paint/body work done, garaged keep always, without any mechanical problems, working perfectly. Have a clean and clear US titles on my name and there are no liens or loans on it. This jet’s was used by my husband who died 4 month ago. The price was reduced at $ 2500 because I’m in a hurry to find a buyer. I need to sell it before the 15 of the next month, when I will be leaving on military duty with my medical team out of the country for a year and do not want to store my jet’s. Hate to sell them but its not worth keeping insurance and paying storage fees for a year. Also, the jet’s are to risky for my daughter so there’s no use on keeping it. If you interested fell free to email me back.

Hi again,
Right now I’m in a military base. We are training, getting ready for leaving the country. The delivery process will be managed by me. I think I can have them at your home address within 2-3 working days. It will come with a clear titles and reg. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 5 days testing period after delivery. During that 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I had two potential buyers : one didn’t show up and the other called saying he lost the money, so I can’t afford to take more days off my work for that, that is why I gave to a shipping company that will ship it to the next owner, so I’m trying to sell it on-line, and beside that I have the transaction under contract with eBay and I have to respect the terms from the contract. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. You will receive the bill of sale and titles in original once I will start the shipping process. I also have the titles of both jet’s and trailer available and once I will register the transaction with ebay and before start the shipping I will send them to you along with my ID.
Here are more photos with my Jet’s: http://imgur.com/a/haqL8
If interested please include in your next email your contact info for shipping (name, address and #) so I can open a transaction with eBay.

My scam was an Airstream Bambi RV for $2700. To good to be true. Sargent in the AF from Nebraska needed to sell before being relocated to Alaska. The ad was posted on Craigslisted. Same M O as some of the previous writers. Here’s the last email I received after asking for more info. Sounded to good to be true so I googled and found out it was. This is so sad to use the military as a tool to scam people.
Buyers Beware!
I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or call whenever I want.I am only allowed to check my email several time a day. Hope you can understand. The reason I’m selling this camper way below market value is because don’t have time for negotiations and I need money before July 26th for my next house in Anchorage. The camper is already at our Offutt Air Force Base Library form Nebraska crated and ready to go. Like I already said, the delivery process will be managed by me. I think I can have it there at your home address within 2-3 working days. It will come with a clear title and reg. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 5 days testing period after delivery. During that 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money. By the way, I just found out that this AF Base was closed in 2013!!!!!!
My most recent message on the Airstream RV Bambi:
If you are still interested just send me YOUR FULL NAME, SHIPPING ADDRESS(Street Name and Number, City, Zip Code) and Phone Number: (Home,Mobile,Office). I will forward your info to eBay and they will notify you about our deal. They will let you know what you have to do for the payment. Like this you’ll be able to talk directly with them and ask all you want to know.
Haaaa I almost got caught up in this scam. By a so called Emily Brown who is supposed to be located at an army base in Virginia. But after reading all these posts it was cleared it was all a scam. 09 maxima perfect condition for 2000 she needed to get rid of it right away her husband had passed away a few months back and she couldn’t pay for storage. Army won’t charge u for storage fee if it’s in the base lol. People are crazy. It’s a shame how they use our heroes to become criminals. I hope you get caught Emily brown.
Hello again,
The thing is I’m selling this car because my husband died 3 months ago (he was very sick) and this car brings me bad memories and that’s the reason why I want to sell it asap…I along with my daughter decided to sell the house and we moved to my parents in Oskaloosa, Iowa trying to start a new life. The car is already at the shipping company in the container, sealed and ready for delivery here in Oskaloosa. The car is there already because someone agreed to buy it, but in the end he never got the loan. For this reason, the shipping is already paid. I will use eBay in this transaction for our protection. If you are not aware of this program, you should know that it will allow you to test drive and inspect the vehicle before paying me. The inspection period will be set to 5 days and I think is enough for you to make a decision about the vehicle. If you won`t like my vehicle, you notify eBay and you send the vehicle back on my expense. But I assure you it won’t be the case.
If you want to continue the purchase, please reply with your full name, delivery address and phone number so I can start the transaction with eBay and ask them to send you the terms of this transaction. ( with no further obligation or fees).
Thank you
Previous email was the same as the others re paying through ebay, , 2003 Chrysler 300M 95,000 miles, looks brand new, and no ebay does not handle these transactions
debkraft631@gmail. TOTAL SCAM. Same as everyone has experienced. She told me she was on a military base getting ready to deploy to South Korea and did not want to store the car. Also Said that the car is in Omaha Nebraska in the e-mail and wanted to ship and pay using Amazon.com. Once in a while, karma smiles on you. I checked for scams and found this blog, Yay! Also we are personal friends with the U.S. Army Colonel who is second in command in South Korea and we are personal friends with a U.S. Army Colonel in the Inspector General’s office, investigating fraud! My husband is a vet and I KNEW something was up because when he went out to sea, he had to store his car and pay for it himself. No one gets deployed and doesn’t come back and no one is selling a $10,000 car for $2500. The government does not pay to ship cars for military members. I have reported this person to site where they uploaded the photos and to gmail as well as the Inpector General’s office. Shame on people who use our military that way!
Add SGT Melissa Clarkson to the list of names that are scamming on Craigslist…2009 CRV with low mileage…beware!!
Well, you can add Sarah Watson to the aliases these scumbags are using, and rank him/her among the worst of the worst. Now they’re using the supposed death of a U.S. serviceman as a reason for selling something so cheaply, as you can see below. Unbelievable.
“OK Rick, I’ve attached some pictures of the bike, take a look and please let me know ASAP if you are still interested. It belonged to my husband. He died in Afghanistan when a military helicopter was shot down. Richard was an addicted biker and babied it very carefully. It’s hard for me to let it go but the family convinced me that this is the only way I can pass this huge loss…I’m trying to get away of all the things that remembers me of him…it’s very hard but this is the life…a b***h…I’m trying to accept this situation and to get over it.
I’m in Honolulu, Hawaii due to my job (I’m an Air Force MSgt. too) and I have the bike here with me. My husband left it here before leaving in Afghanistan so all the maintenance could be performed on time. I can deliver it to your shipping address (I’ll pay for the shipping and insurance fees) and I’ll agree to let you test and inspect it for 5 days just to be sure. In these 5 days you’ll test the conditions of the bike. If something won’t be like you expected to be you can return it without any expense. All the paperwork will come with the bike.
I’ll deliver it through our Air Force affiliated shipping company so the costs will be ok for me+they will take care of everything (title transfer, insurance, paperwork, etc…). Also a refund policy will be included so, as I’ve said, you’ll have the possibility to return it if you consider so but I really don’t think this will happen because the bike is in great shape.
The bike was listed also on eBay Classifieds Ads so the sale/payment will go through eBay. In this way both of us will have the required assurance that the deal will take place well. Once you’ll agree with the purchase I’ll receive the payment for it.
If you agree with these terms please reply me with your full name, shipping address and your phone# so that I can forward them to eBay and have the transaction started. They will send you a complete list with instructions/invoice.
I’m waiting for your reply as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Sarah
P.S. the price of $2500 was offered by a pawn shop over here so I’ve said what the heck let’s someone else takes advantage of my decision to sell it, not a dealer.”
It seems these people have changed up their tactics.
I recently started to use the app Let Go,where i found a beautiful 2007 Acura TL Type S for a steal of a deal at just under $3k.
They’ve changed their name and didn’t mention anything about the military.
They state their reason for selling as their son passed away and they can no longer look at the car without it bringing up terrible feelings.
The name to look for now is: Amanda Robertson, they have switched from ebay to amazon.
Here is the email i received regarding the car.
My name is Amanda and I’m emailing you about my 2007 Acura Tl-S with only 128,946 miles. Never had or need any paint/body work done, garaged keep always, without any mechanical problems, tires and wheels are in great shape as well, electric is working perfectly. Has a clean and clear title in my name and there are no liens or loans on it.The price for the car is $2.000 (including delivery and handling to your address). I’m selling this car because my child of only 26 years died 2 months ago in a bike accident, the car belonged to my son and it brings me bad memories and that’s the reason I want to sell it. Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through Amazon, so if you’re interested in purchasing the car just reply me your full name, full address and phone number, so I can notify Amazon. Once that is done, they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
Thank you,
Amanda Robertson
Also I attached some photos of the car.
So buyer beware!

Shame on them whoever is doing this. I cannot believe it is still going on since 2008. Why isn’t the government getting involved to stop these crooks. below is the letter I received. Has manty facets of the letters previously received by others. BUY BE AWARE.
Hello ,
First of all I want to thank you for your interest in my 2007 Honda CR-V EX 2.4L, 4cyl. The car has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, it only has 52,758 miles! Transmission is automatic. The vehicle has all of its original floor mats, all books, complete set of tools and keys. Everything works in the car lights, gauges, radio, windows, locks, a/c blows ice cold, etc. It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions with a clear title free of liens. It has new Goodyear tires.
I bought it when I was serving in U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Havelock, NC and now I am deployed in Denver, CO. The car will be delivered from here, it is stored in a military compound.
I have dropped my price to $3,000 (purchase price) including delivery and handling to your address, since this is an urgent sale, it will be delivered free of charge through a military transportation service to a designated location of your choice, average delivery time is 2-3 business days, depending on destination. It has been reduced because I need to find a buyer before my upcoming deployment take place and I don’t want to waste more time negotiating.
If you’re interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner please email me your: full name, shipping address and phone number, to open a case with Amazon. They will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the car. Using Amazon service we are both 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
To support my argument regarding the condition of the car please visit the following photo album: http://s50.photobucket.com/user/2007-Honda-CR-V-EX-I4/library/

I informed the seller that we are a retired couple and do not understand Amazon buying on the computer and that we were willing to fly out to Denver Colorado to see the car and purchase it if we like it. What a surprise, she never replied to my email?
Too bad, because I would really fly out and meet these bastards. I doubt they are in the USA.
I used Craigslist and got the same thing from Barry when I was trying to sell a watch.
Add Ssgt. Judy Harris of the US Air Force to this list. Here was the “bait,” in the form of a Craigslist ad with a small photo of a white Camry that could have been taken anywhere.:
DurablePowder 2004 Toyota Camry – $1500
runs and drives good has a four-cylinder VTEC engine automatic transmission power windows power locks cold AC heater works too very clean interior non-smoker no mechanical issues Radio CD player cruise control clean silver title.
We sent an e-mail to ask about it, where it was parked, how to see it, and only got this message back (the hook) filling in the details of the fantastic deal):
Hello and thank you for being interested in buying my 2004 Toyota Camry. My name is Judy. My car is in great shape, no engine problems, damages, hidden defects, never abused. It was always garaged and never smoked in. It has a 2.4L GAS engine, automatic transmission, 82,500 miles. White exterior paint is great, no scratches and no dents; the interior is gray and clean; it has never been involved in accidents; no liens or loans; the title is clear. My last price is $1,500 (no payments; no trades). I bought the car when I was serving in Langley Air Force Base, VA but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska for a 3 years period and don’t want to store it. Hate to sell it but I do not want to let it destroy my backyard, beside this it’s not worth keeping insurance and paying storage fees. Before leaving I had pre-arranged the deal with eBay so my presence is not necessary. They can protects both buyer and seller and it’s the right way to do this.
If you are interested, please include in the next email your contact information for eBay (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can move forward with this transaction.
I look forward to hearing from you,
SSgt. Judy Harris
At this point we hadn’t been asked for any payment (the sting!) yet, and I had the idea of searching for Judy Harris and Air Force and Elmendorf, and one way or another I came to websites that showed what a persistent scam this whole thing is. Thank goodness. Then actually while I was in the middle of writing this post, received the following Sting-mail from our new friend Sergeant Judy Harris:
Hi again, as I’ve told you, at this moment I am in Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK in a military base. I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or call whenever I want. The reason I’m selling this car way below market value is because I don’t have time for negotiations and I need money before October 12 for my next house in Anchorage. Before leaving I had pre-arranged the deal with eBay so my presence is not necessary. They can protects both buyer and seller and it’s the right way to do this. The car is in their possession at eBay storage warehouse in Richmond, VA, crated and ready to be delivered. eBay will handle this transaction and the total amount that you will pay is $1,500 (NO hidden or shipping fees). After the payment is confirmed and secured by eBay I will start the shipping. You will receive the car at your home address within 2-3 working days. It will come with a clear title and reg. I am a member of eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 5 days testing period after delivery and then I will get the payment. SO…ONLY AFTER you receive the car and agree to keep it, eBay will release the payment to me, in this way we are both protected. If by any reason you find something you don’t like about it you can send it back on my expense but I’m sure it won’t be the case because my car is in excellent condition. It will come with all the necessary paperwork (clear title, bill of sale, user’s auto. etc). You will receive all the original documents. I signed all the paperwork and the clear title is ready to be transferred to the new owner.
I will contact eBay Motors and I will proceed the deal. You will receive a notification from them with all the steps you need to follow to complete the deal. E-mail me when you will receive the notification from them.
Thanks !
SSgt. Judy Harris
I’ll wait for the next message that tells me to use Western Union to send payment to some bogus escrow holder, and no way! I believe that once we had seen the new business about Richmond, Virginia and shipping (we’re in California!), we’d have figured out this was a scam on our own, but I’m grateful for this 9-years-and-counting thread all the same!
Add Diane Hardy as well…this time it was a lovely 2007 Coachmen RV for $7200…it’s a good thing I was taught “if it looks too good to be true, it probably is”. Almost identically wording and she is being station in South Korea on October 6. Glad we dodged that bullet…now to report it to Craigslist!
Happened to me, cycle trader too. 2000 Yamaha road star trike, wanting $2645, willing to go down to $2500. said it was in Missouri, I could drive there in over an hour, changed location to North Dakota, USAF Sgt. Donna Walters. bike had a ton of stuff done to it, that would cost more than it was being sold for. I tried calling her out on it, started harassing me over it, trying to do the same thing, only with Amazon instead, same ship in 3 days and inspect for 7 days, thing. just needed my address and info to be billed by Amazon.
Not even Sgt. Lisa Parks can be trusted.
Hi,
Thank you for being interested in buying my 1999 Chevrolet S10 ZR2. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history and has never been involved in an accident. It has 113,000 miles miles, the truck comes with a 4.3L liter engine V6. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the engine, runs great. Title is clean. I bought it when I was serving the McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas but I was promoted and transferred to Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska for a 3 years period and I do not want to let it ruin in my backyard, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer.
The truck is still in Kansas crated and sealed ready to go. The shipping will be free because I will transport it using the Internal Logistic Department! The Logistic Department will deliver the truck to the nearest US Air Force Base in your area and at that point you can pick it up or I can hire a tow truck in our network to have it delivered at your door. The entire shipping process will take 2-3 days. The financial part will be managed by eBay which means you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the truck. This way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
My bottom line would be $1,500 so if you are interested to conclude this purchase, in a timely manner please provide me your full name, shipping address and phone number so I can inform eBay that I have a buyer!
Hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks,
Sgt. Lisa Parks
Add Sgt. Nicole Harrington USAF to the list. It’s another “serving at Offhut AFB near Omaha NE and being transferred to Elmendorf AFB.” Same exact email but for a dodge truck. Also replied with 3 different emails.
Here’s a little twist——
Hello,
This 2012 Kia Optima SXL runs and drives excellent. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, Only 44,989 miles! 2.0L engine, 4 cylinders, transmission Automatic shifts smoothly. It has no leaks no drips and does not smoke at all, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions with a clear title free of encumbrances and liens. I bought it when i was serving in Fort Dearborn in Chicago IL and now I am deployed in Alaska. The car will be delivered from Chicago, Illinois don’t worry about the shipping because is free. I have dropped my price to $4000 (purchase price) since this is an Urgent Sale! and I need to sell it before October 28th, when I will be deployed in Afghanistan with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home.
The financial part will be managed by Amazon, which means that you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the car. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. If you want to complete the purchase please send me your: full name, full shipping address and your phone number so i can notify Amazon that you are selected as my buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
Again I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.

Again I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.
Here is a link with a photo album of the car http://imgur.com/a/w2QwK
Hope to hear from you soon!

Hello ,
My 2010 Ford F-250 Lariat is still for sale. It has 80,154 miles, engine 6.4L v8, 4×4, Automatic and clear title. The price was reduced at $5100 as I need to sell it before October 29th, when I’ll be leaving with my unit Brigade Combat Team back to South Korea replacing the troops scheduled to come home. The deal includes free delivery as you may know we can ship a truck /bike/etc from home to the base and back one time in a year for free. The vehicle will arrive at your address in 48hrs so my presence it’s not necessary cause I have everything arranged with Amazon . You will have 5 days testing period before I receive any money and if by any reason you find something you don’t like about, you can send it back on my expense and you will receive a full refund of your money. It is located in Omaha, NE. The title is clean and free of any loans or liens!
If you’re interested in purchasing it, all I need from you is your full name, phone# and shipping address and Amazon will contact you shortly after I forward them your contact details.

So as you can see, it has the same theme as most of the others posted here. If something appears to be too good to be true most likely it is a scam. Do your due diligence before sending any personal info or money.
Don’t fall for scams…
Mike
Rebecca Warner back at it!
“Her” email response for more info…and the other when asked where the truck was located. The first red flag was in her snippy “Like I already said” then i googled her name and this site popped up. So thank you!!
Hello,
My name is Rebecca, and I’m emailing you about 2005 Ford F150 Lariat Body Style CrewCab Pickup with an gasoline engine, automatic transmission and only 129,201 mileage. Never had or need any paint/body work done, garaged keep always, without any mechanical problems, tires and wheels are in great shape as well, electric is working perfectly. The engine 5.4L V8 4×4 runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. Has a clean and clear title in my name and there are no liens or loans on it. This car was used by my husband who died 4 month ago. The price was reduced at $2,500 because I’m in a hurry to find a buyer. I need to sell the car before the 11 of the next month, when I will be leaving on military duty with my medical team out of the country for a year and do not want to store my car. Hate to sell it but its not worth keeping insurance and paying storage fees for a year.
P.S: I attached you some pictures with the car.
Regards
Hi again, right now I’m in a military base. We are training, getting ready for Afghanistan. I am only allowed to check my email several time a day.We have to stick to e-mail for now. Hope you can understand. The truck is already at our Military Logistic Department form Fort Belvoir, U.S. Army base crated and ready to go. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can move forward with this transaction.
Looking forward to hear from you !
Hi, I was reading some of these experiences, and I was wondering if anyone has being contacted by someone by the name of Andrew Calhoun, who says he’s in the air force in the UK, and selling a 2008 Honda Accord. I think he might be a scammer. Though I found his car ad in two different newspapers, and he claims to have put the ad nationwide.
You guys saved me from the scam.Thank you very much. Just so other know here is another scam email from ‘Sgt. Rebecca Edward’
Hello ,
First of all I want to thank you for your interest in my 2009 Honda Accord EX-L V6 3.5L. The car has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, it only has 48,196 miles!
If you’re interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner please email me your: full name, shipping address and phone number, to open a case with eBay Motors. They will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the car. Using eBay Motors service we are both 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
