1. I got two! Hahaha, this is ridiculous. I’m so glad I found this website. Now I won’t be doing anything stupid for a fake car.

This car has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all. 2. Got the same types of email. They kept talking about being stationed in Afghanistan and when I mentioned that my cousin was stationed there, they had nothing to say about it. Besides, everything they sent me seemed totally premeditated lol. it was like an auto response they didnt even read what i said beefore.

   Right now I’m in a military base, we are getting ready for Afghanistan. I cannot leave the base for now. The car is already at the shipping company warehouse ready to be shipped. It’s enlisted in the eBay VPP program so this deal must go through them. In accordance with eBay Vehicle Purchase Program terms, you have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide whether you want to keep it or not.    The car is already sealed in a military warehouse in Florida. It will be shipped from there by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked  to your place. Shipping will be done door-to-door, to your exact location, so you will not have to pick the car up yourself.

   The price for the car is $1200 USD. This price includes all the shipping taxes and fees. Ebay will hold the funds until you receive and accept the car. I will have access to the funds only after you test and inspect the car (you will have 5 days to do that) and in case something goes wrong or the car is not as advertised you will be fully refunded. 7. I too fell for this scam, three years later this guy is STILL at it!! I recently got in a car accident and i’ve been looking for a new car at a low price. I saw an add for a 2007 Honda CR for $2900 thinking i’ve found the best deal ever. After reading the e-mail, it was pretty clear to me that this was WAY TO good to be true. What person in their right mind would try to sell a car way below value, and ship it for “free”. I’m glad i did my research and came across this blog. It’s hilarious. What scum bags, seriously.

8. My friend has just been taken by this scam. Folks its real and it happens. She thought she was buying a 2005 Expediton for $4900 from a “Sgt. Codon” who was stationed in Afganastan and needed to sell his car that was located in Fl. and for her not to worry about the shipping he would take care of that. She bank transferred the money from her account to his “bank in Louisiana”. A week later no car. She emailed him and all of a sudden it had been totaled in a wreck while in transport but not to worry he was sending her money back. (Another scam just to buy more time). In the mean time she checks her bank and that “louisiana bank” in now located in HUNGARY! Folks we don’t have troops stationed in Hungary. It was at this point that I informed her that there was mostly likely never any wreck. In order for there to be a wreck there must first be a car. And as for her $4900? Well some european scam artist is living it up over there now on her expense. And to top it off, the same truck has been relisted on craigslist for the next poor soul to fall prey to…..DO NOT GET DRAWN INTO THIS SCAM!!!!!!!!

   I talked to my Dad who has 30 years of military service and a employee from work who has over 10 years. It is impossible for the someone to ship a vehicle overseas to a third-party. THE MILITARY WILL NOT DO IT!!! Also they will NEVER ship it back to the country for free. DON’T FALL FOR THE SCAM!!!

The reason I’m selling this vehicle way below market value, is because I would like to help ease the burden of my sisters medical expenses, which she has acquired due to a serious illness.

16. Well I just fell for this hook, line and sinker. Found not one but two ad’s on Craigslist. One was $2900 for a Toyota Camry XLE and Daniel Miller and the other was for a 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L sedan, 3.5L V6 MPI engine, AUTOMATIC. Major Kimberly Mirto.

    Both were stationed in the UK and yesterday I sent money to the first guy.

    Well, finally something clicked in my thick skull and and I decided to google military car scam and found this site. After about 3 seconds of reading I called Western Union and stopped the money transfer in the nick of time. I can now go and get my money back. I will do that once I finish this post.

    I lost $135 in fees, a lot of pride and the suckers have my contact information. However, I never gave them my SS# so……………

    Anyone with advice? What else do I need to do to protect myself from identity theft?

17. I did the same thing. Seller- aka Sgt. Roy Strawderman of Anchorage, AK was selling on craigslist a Audi for 2940.00 due to the fact his sister was ill. He stated that since he was in the USAF that the shipping would be free. All I had to do was send money via Western Union care of EBay account. They even had an official looking Ebay account page.

    I contacted Ebay and of course this turned out to be a scam. Thankfully, I had read your experience and contacted officials before doing anything with a money transaction.
    Beware of this guy and his best regards!!! They are not in our best regards.

My friend which is a christian felt in her heart it was a scam. She said “NO WAY” there is going to be a 2005 for that much. So after replying to two of his messages “ROY STRAWDERMAN” suppose to be in the army in anchorage, alaska. I go onto google and type in his name, and BAM THERE IT WAS ripoff report for his name. I’m glad he didn’t get my money, I also told him my lawyer would look deep into this car and all information and haven’t heard from him since. So we’ll see if he so called write me back. It’s advertised as having been garage kept, perfect condition, etc etc. I sent an email just asking the mileage (nothing else) and this is the response I got (which was received within a matter of hours):

32. Wow! I am so glad I came across this website. I was *very* close to purchasing a car advertised on Craig’s List this morning for a 2006 Honda Civic EX sedan in mint-condition. Price is $3,000 USD w/ no additional fees and also being “sold” by someone in the military, in my case “Major Kimberly Mirto” ([email protected]), who’s currently “in Spain and has the car with her,” though it still has US tags. The part about the free shipping and no responsibility for the fees, etc. was too good to be true. And here I was getting upset at my dad for being vigilant and leary about Craig’s List and eBay!! I will post the e-mail later today. I’m surprised she got back to me with the quickness BEFORE I asked if I could have a 24 hour window to discuss things with my dad and stepmom, mainly because of “concerns with ID theft and leary transactions on eBay and Craig’s List”. 38. Well this scam artist has moved on to going after Sellers. My husband was selling his little sports car. This man named “Isaac Lock” claims to be in the military and can only e-mail 2 times a day. He also needs to pay through paypal and of course wanted our personal information. He also offered to pay $500 MORE than we asked for. Who does that? We knew immediately it was a scam when he said that. Also, who would buy a car without seeing it in person and he wanted a “friend” to come by to look at it in person. SCARY!!

    I just googled about craigslist military scams and was glad to see this post. Seriously I wish we could get these people doing this!!

39. Well, here is another variation, I think…I was looking for an affordable SUV on Autotrader & came upon a listing for a ’99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. that looked great, low miles, low price. The vehicle was supposedly in Foley, MO (about 80 miles from me). There was a phone number, which corresponded to the general Foley area, and also an email address: [email protected]

    I shot off an email asking if the SUV was still available, & then about an hour later, I called the number listed. No one answered, so I left my first name & phone number, asking for a call back with more info about the Jeep.

    In about 2 hours I received this reply email:

    Hi Dana, the jeep is still for sale ,is in very good condition, clean title, no accidents, Ice Cold A/C, everything works on it ,no rust ,no leaks, no mechanical problems ,inspection done two months ago (oil and brakes changed) ,tires are as new ,i sent you more pictures to see the condition of the jeep .Right now i am stationed at MacDill Air Force Base, FL until Sept. 22th and i have the jeep here with me . I will sell the jeep for $3800 , nothing less . If you have a military base near to you,i can ship it there , no extra fee for you .     So I immediately start trying to figure out how the logistics for something like this would work. I could find no info on Cadet Lt Col. Dorton anywhere. The VIN # was listed in one the of pics sent to me, so I Carfaxed, & found out that the SUV was sold at auction in Massachusetts @ 6 months ago. I thought to myself, “Wow, this guy has done of lot of traveling in it.” I then Googled the VIN # & found a listing for this same SUV by a car dealership in Massachusetts. It was listed approximately 6 months ago, & the EXACT SAME pictures as the ones given to me by “Dorton” were shown on this dealership’s website, with a Massachusetts license plate. I went back to “Dorton’s” pics & saw where he had doctored the license plate, obscuring the license plate with just a white square. As I could see no good reason for doing this, I was very suspicious by this time. I Googled “Autotrader military scam” & lo & behold, found several websites addressing this issue, including this one. Now I’m just pissed at how excited I was to find this SUV. I guess I will try to report this to Autotrader, but I have little hope of anything actually happening. Oh well, at least I’m not out any money.

Another “female military officer”, after which I googled, military + vehicle+ scam, and your site showed up. I did a lot of reading, then followed up with the scammers, and Craigs List, as well as Google Checkout – Unfortunately Google Checkout doesn’t think there is a problem – since they are secure 🙁 and believe the seller to be legit. Too bad they obviously were not willing to do to look into it more for some reason. I’m interested in hearing from some who one tried to go through with the sale.

    I guess the loser hiding behind his screen is too stupid to realize that he’s sending basically the same email to the SAME address under different names and cars. In my case, first he was a William, but on a different vehicle and email, he was Shad Williams. No mind, no creativity.

    If you ever get one of these emails, tell the moron you know his game and to piss off. Support our troops (the REAL ones).

44. I just sent another email to this scammer inquiring about a Cadillac STS for only $2,950. This time, I used my buddy’s email and laptop. That buddy is a local Sheriff’s dep, and all their service laptops come with IP tracers (for undercover busts on pedophiles), so when this tool responds with his usual BS, the sheriff’s dept will have his computer’s IP. So unless this sack of shiot is outside the US, this scam should be coming to an end as soon as the local sheriff’s dept contacts the law enforcement of the area the IP is in.

    My buddy was in the service, and was very pissed by these claims, especially people claiming to be selling their son’s or husband’s car/bike because they died in Iraq/Afghanistan. That really hit a nerve with him. He said that if he finds the guy, he’ll personally drive as far as Alaska to slap the cuffs on him if the local authorities fail to do it.

    I attached the carfax report and a copy of the title to show no accidents, real mileage, not salvage, no liens, no loans.
    Right now I’m in a military base in Missoula, MT and we are getting ready for Afghanistan. I cannot leave the base and I’m not able to talk on the phone (at least for the moment).
    To make things easier I enlisted the car in the eBay Vehicle Purchase Program. Because the deal must be sealed through them, as you may already know, in accordance with their terms you’ll be given 5 days to inspect and test drive the car before making a final decision and title transfer takes place.
    The car (along with all documents, clean and clear title with my signature on it, owner’s manual and keys) will be shipped by DAS shipping company through a contract the army has with DAS. The shipping is free on your side.
    Here is how it will work:
    1. I will inform eBay that I have a buyer and ask them to start a new transaction with you.
    2. They will ask you for the shipping details. After they process your information, they will send you an invoice with all the details on how to make a refundable payment.
    3. After the refundable payment is made, eBay will contact me to authorize the shipping. The shipping will last maximum 4 days. This entire time your payment will stay with eBay, including those 5 days inspection period from the moment you get the car.
    If by any means you find that the car does not meet your expectations, you’ll get fully refunded and the car gets back to the shipping company, free of charge on your side.
